03 Mar How to Commission a Personal Illustration
There’s something quietly special about personal illustration commission. It isn’t just artwork — it’s a moment, a person, or a memory translated into something lasting. If you’re thinking about commissioning a personalised illustration this is a guide for families & individuals on how the process works.
What Can Be Illustrated?
Personal illustration commissions often include:
- Meaningful moments or milestones
- Family portraits including couples, children and pets
- Special places such as homes or favourite landscapes
- Memories, holidays or adventures

You don’t need a fully formed idea — sometimes a short description and a few photographs are enough. Every project begins with a conversation. You tell me about your idea — the feeling, the audience, the world you’re imagining. I’ll send a quote and timeline, and once we agree to move forward, I begin with loose sketches to explore the heart of the image. From there, I create the finished illustration with care and attention to detail. Sometimes I work completely digitally and other times I start from an initial collage and mixed media image and we can talk about your preference when we plan the illustration together. Final artwork is delivered digitally, or in print.

Why Commission a Personal Illustration?
A personalised illustration makes a thoughtful gift for:
- Birthdays
- New babies
- Anniversaries
- Weddings
- Memorial pieces
- Or simply celebrating everyday life
A personal illustration commission can be something which grows with a family — artwork that becomes part of your home. Memorable projects I’ve worked on include memento’s from adventurous holidays, couple portraits for wedding invitations, peoples homes, and lots of wonderful outdoor inspired wild swimming memories. If you’re considering a personalised illustration commission in the UK or internationally, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
